I had two skeins of this yarn, Katia Azteca, in my stash for more than a year and never really thought of a project to use them. I decided to design this crochet Shifter Cowl to show off all these beautifull colors. This cowl was crocheted with an 8mm hook, to be less bulky and with a perfect drape. There are many ways to wear it - I counted 5 - and you can wear it in both right and wrong sides. For me this is really a must-have!

  1. I followed the link from Ravelry. I just wanted to say that I am a native English speaker who can read a little Portuguese. I am thrilled to find your patterns in both languages! Now I can learn crochet terms in Portuguese! And besides, your items are beautiful!

    Obrigada!

  2. Oh! I really like the second way of wearing it. This is just another reason why I need to make a knitted version of something like this. Wonderful!

(As an aside, is that a picture of a spindle in the background of your blog? What type is it?)

    1. Thanks! Yes, the spindle is mine, its a traditional Portuguese spindle from Castro Daire, made of Spanish heath wood.

  5. Hello Ana, thanks so much for the free pattern! I've started it and have a question. How many stitches are there after row three? Do you keep the same 120 stitch count throughout? I lost a bunch of stitches when working Row 3.
    Thanks, Julie

  6. Hello Ana, I love the pattern but may have made a mistake on Row 3. Doors the stitch count of 120 remain consistent? I list many stitches after row three and will end up with a much smaller cowl.
    Thanks, Julie

    1. Hello Julie, I'm glad you liked the pattern. Yes, the 120 stitch count is consistent in all the rows. Sometimes when working in the round I count the stitches in every other row to make sure it is right, then I don't have to unravel many rows at a time if it isn't (it's a bit boring but effective).
      I hope this was useful.

  9. I love this cowl so much! I just ordered some yarn that will be perfect for it.

One question, though: is the English translation England English or American English? The double-crochet, for example, means two different things in the two countries, so I am not sure which this is.

    Thanks for the clarification!

  10. Lisa, the English translation is American English.
    Have a nice day!
